Shiori

Sawadee ka!

I am Shiori, one of the new interns at Andaman Discoveries.  I joined the team at the beginning of February, and I will be here for another 5 months. It is unbelievable how fast my days have gone by since arriving here.  It’s been great fun and I am enjoying working with the team and with the community projects.

This internship is part of my bachelor degree of International Tourism and Consultancy at NHTV in the Netherlands.  I chose to come here because I’ve been interested in working on Community-Based Tourism and such projects for the last few years, Andaman Discoveries is working on projects which I’ve been keen to be involved with.

I am in charge of client communications and coordinating volunteers who come to help our projects.  I am also here to do destination research for my study.  I do hope to be able to contribute my experiences and knowledge gained from my studies and gain more experiences and expand my network during my stay.

If you have not been to Thailand or the Andaman region, I do recommend you visit us and explore this beautiful and exotic area!

My colleague, Jennifer who is working on our Newsletter and social media up-dates, will keep you posted about us, our volunteers and guests and of course our projects!

Experience of new member of staff Nicole

Dear all,

Let me introduce myself, my name is Nicole, new member of staff for 6 months at Andaman Discoveries. I have been here for four weeks now, and I already feel at home.

The internship started with a week in Berlin at a CBI stand at a fair called ITB, this was a good introduction to Andaman Discoveries and the projects they offer. This is were I met Bodhi Garrett, the founder of AD, who inspired me with amazing stories about the projects that make Andaman Discoveries to what it is today. On Friday the 11th of March Bodhi received the ToDo award, which is a great acknowledgement for AD.

Then after a long flight and three wonderful days of acclimatizing, Karen picked me up from the Nai Yang Beach resort. On our way to Kuraburi, we had to stop by one of the projects of AD, this project is wonderful were the owners raise the kids as their own and I felt a warm feeling of happiness run trough me, this organization really stands up for the community!

When I arrived in Kuraburi, Thailand the staff opened their arms to let me in and unfortunately at the same time Guillem, an Member of staff since September, was leaving to go back to his hometown Barcelona.

On the 31st of March Lilia came to Kuraburi and will stay with us until October!

Now, four weeks later, I feel on my place in the office and my Thai is improving every day!

Thanks!
